Here's a sampling of my bass collection. There used to be a bunch more, but I'm down to four. I'll add the other ones when I get the chance and eventually a thing about my amp stuff (but I mostly use Epifani anyway). Use this menu to jump to a bass and its photo/description:

This is one of my favourites, built in in Woodstock, NY by the legendary Michael Tobias. The finish on this bass is called "Dennis Rodman", and it has an ash body, maple top, and wenge neck and fretboard. This is the fifth MTD I've owned, and I've finally settled on this wood combination as the one I prefer. The bass has the trademark MTD clarity, but the low end is taut and authoritative and round. The truss rod cover was designed and made by Bill Nichols of Nichols Guitars, and features a sumo inlay design in abalone. Click the thumbnail to see the full-size image. |

This one's straight outta Germany. As you can see, it has a highly figured maple body and headstock overlay. The neck is similarly flamey, and it has a nice, dark ebony fretboard. The pickups are the Schack-designed Basstec J's, as is the preamp. You have to admire a builder who designs his own instruments and electronics. This bass is very modern-sounding and it has great note separation. Another intriguing feature is the neck joint attachment. It's a bolt-on, but the bolts aren't visible from the back. I'm not sure how this is done, but it's pretty cool! |
